No one exactly, though some of you were very close with the word "gift." The fact is that on Christmas Eve the neighbors came by with a bucket of Atole, which is a yummy cinnamon flavored oatmeal drink. They also gave us a bag of tamales. That was one bucket, on top of the other bucket which I never returned to another neighbor who shared some barbacoa on Day of the Dead.
A few other buckets were given to us as New Year's gifts from local businesses. Two came from Taco restaurants. What you can't see on the back side is the message which is hand-written with a Sharpie saying Feliz Ano Nuevo and the name of the establishment. The big round bucket on the bottom of the pile came from a street vendor where the kids bought tacos one night. It is unmarked, so we still do not know the name of the place we refer to as the "Blue Graffiti" taco stand.
Other years we have been inundated with calendars, which is the typical New Year's gift from businesses. For some reason this year we are getting more buckets than calendars.
The chocolate will go to my friend Faith, who left Mexico last year with intentions to return, but never did. She knew the answer and didn't spill the beans (or the atole, as the case may be).
